On March 28th 2024 Natural Greece, T-Hap and MOYO Training Foundation will join forces to bring an insightful introduction to Nature Positive Tourism and Travel. This approach to tourism emphasizes a positive impact on nature and wildlife, combined with enriching travel experiences. The presentation features real-life examples and case studies from Europe, especially Greece. Nature-positive tourism is an emerging trend that represents a shift towards more sustainable and environmentally responsible travel. In our introduction, we explore the essentials of the tourism industry, Focusing on current wildlife conservation trends, including the innovative concept of rewilding. We discuss the critical role of community engagement. We also explore, how the travel industry can significantly contribute to the preservation and enhancement of natural environments. What to Expect from the Nature Positive Tourism & Travel Workshop: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of nature-positive tourism, exploring the tourism industry's role. In addition, they will learn more about wildlife conservation trends (including rewilding), and community engagement. Moreover, they will how the travel industry can actively contribute to the well-being of our environment. Tour Operator Natural Greece has signed up to Tourism Declares, an initiative that supports organizations in tourism declaring a climate emergency and taking purposeful action to reduce their carbon emissions as per the advice from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030. Like all signatories, Natural Greece commits to accelerating its own emission reductions in line with IPPC advice. By committing to the following 5 actions: Develop a ‘Climate Emergency Plan’ Within 12 months of the initial declaration, or sooner if possible. Share our commitment and progress publicly Share our initial public declaration, our ‘Climate Action Plan’, and update on progress against our targets each year. Cut carbon emissions We accept the current IPCC advice stating the need to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030 to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming. Our ‘Climate Emergency Plan’ represents actions designed to achieve this as a minimum, by delivering transparent, measurable, and increasing reductions in the total carbon emissions arising from our own operations. Work together Natural Greece encourages tour operator clients, contacts, hoteliers and all other partners to make the same declaration. We will share best practices amongst them, and actively participate in the Tourism Declares Climate Emergency community. Advocate for change We recognize the need for system change across the tourism industry and call for urgent regulatory action & a just transition towards radical carbon reduction. How to join the movement The focus of “Tourism Declares Climate Emergency” for 2021 is creating three Climate Action Blueprints - for Tour Operators, Accommodation Providers & Destinations Thus, enabling anyone in these sectors to deliver their Climate Action Plans.
